According to A/Sec. Flores, this year’s Nutrition Month launching is an historic event as it coincides with the Philippines’ registration to the Scaling Up Nutrition, or  SUN Movement.

SUN is a global movement, composed of 40 countries, founded on the principle that all people have a right to food and good nutrition.

A/Sec. Flores noted that the Philippines’ becoming part of the SUN Movement “can bring in global partners’ support to the country and also national high-level commitments to scale-up nutrition actions and nutrition-sensitive interventions.”

Representatives from the Philippine government, particularly the Department of Health, Department of Agriculture, and the National Economic and Development Authority, along with their counterparts from the United Nations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), and community workers, gave a statement and signed a pledge of support to the SUN Movement.
